![]() This Christmas day was one of the best ever that I can consciously recall. Habits of previous years and 'traditions' were finally changed leaving a space for new experiences. A reminder that in life we can't let new things in if we arn't prepared to let things go – What is consistently on top of every Christmas day and what really matters the most, is of course the people that I am fortunate to spend the day with and also to pay respect and remember the ones I've lost. The older I'm getting re-inforces just how integral it is to spend time with people who I choose to be with, and to do the things that matter the most. Somewhere along the way we all need to ensure that more often than not, there is a congruency between what we feel and how we act and what we do. Too much of not being true to ourselves can and will manifest in our health, of which neuro science has now evidenced through how a thought impacts us on a cellular level. At some point we have to be brutally honest with ourselves, taking stock of who and what we are, the good, the bad, and the ugly. To support the integration of our head and our hearts we have to look a little deeper, which means a little more is needed than just surface level positive thinking, although that's what's needed to start. Fake til we make it so the saying goes! We need not 'change' ourselves but rather re-discover, and that can begin by finding out who, what, where and why we value the things or people that we do. Whilst nothing in life is guaranteed, it's one of the best investments and health insurance policies we can ever create for ourselves. Being vulnerable to seeking out what's behind our thoughts takes courage but will reveal hidden treasures that when exposed can be the key or the leverage to creating the sort of life that we want. Most decisions we make are based on our past which makes moving forward tricky and scary, because the future is unknown. We can become immobilised by what ever has happened in our lives until we make the decision not to be – yet it is only then we can start to unravel ourselves. We can not create a better life if we hang on to what we think we are....we need to consider if where we currently are in life is where we want to be? And nothing will change in our lives if we arn't prepared to let something go. We can make our next action based on what is and what was?, or we can base it on what we want – the choice is ours. All roads in our minds will always lead back to what we believe in the most, so we need to be very careful as to where we put our focus, because how we think about ourselves is what shall be. Having spent the last 25 years exploring this in myself I got the perfect opportunity to put it to 'the test' after battling many years under the dark cloud of depression. I learnt so much about myself during this period of my life and the revelations were big. The line is very fine between feeling in control and feeling out of control, between feeling trapped and free, between love and hate, and so on...and the gap inbetween is simply a 'thought'. However that 'thought' in between needs to be fought for, as for a lot of us it doesn't come naturally. We don't need to wait for a new year to be inspired to do things differently, we have that opportunity every single minute of every single day. I chose to change my Christmas Day, which effectively has changed the course of my life. Thank you to those whom I spent it with, and the fun, laughter and freedom you bought me with your presence – I just have one favour? Please take my phone off me next time – you know what Im talking about!.
