AT SOME POINT WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT IT IS THAT MATTERS TO US.... NOT WHAT IS THE MATTER.
There's certain moments that happen in life that are game changers. I had one a few weekends ago when I met one of my heroes, a successful author and soon to be a Hollywood movie maker. This man had already changed my life with his successful book, but continued to change it again after accepting my invitation to meet for coffee on a recent trip to Auckland. Like a lot of other Kiwi's I have spent many years exposed to nonchalance, so it was incredibly refreshing to be considered interesting enough to have coffee with! I am so relieved that I learnt the skills needed to help deflect those who try and shatter dreams and ideals, less I wouldn't have had this amazing encounter. His area of expertise is in neuroscience, in the sense of human and brain development and our personal potential. He teaches people how to re-wire the brain for desired changes, of which I am one. He taught me that what I realistically want to achieve, I can. (I can now add meeting him to that list). He taught me that my emotions whilst are valid, are often not the whole truth. In fact some can be quite distorted despite how real they feel! I learnt that it was my perception that I made real and his book taught me how and why. For so many years I didn't bother to get to know what needs are relevent in the current sense rather than what may have been relevent in the past. He taught me how to find my strengths and build on them and at the same time how to turn my weaknesses into opportunities to learn from, rather than be limited by. I was also reminded that we can't change others and if I want something different in my life then it is me that can change that. He helped me finally accept that change is guaranteed no matter what, so it was best I started working with it rather than try and dodge it!. I have also come to learn that often change can bring great opportunities for learning and development if I stay open to looking for hope. Mostly though he taught me something which exceeds all else, he taught me that I have far more control in my life than I was lead to believe, and with choices there is great freedom. His gift to me I now endeavour to pass on to my own clients, who in turn I believe will pass on to others, and if we all take one little step forward with our own personal development then that is how we can change the world!.
