Denial: “I have no problem and there is no need to change, in fact it's others that have to change and then my problems will go away”
Pre Contemplative: “I think I need to change something to achieve what I want”
Contemplative: “I definitely want something to change and I'm going to do something about it”
Action: “Im finally doing it!”
Maintenance: “I keep yo yoeing between old and new behaviour..I need a plan”
In my experience in the fitness industry I see the majority of people make it to the Action stage, but only a few actually can sustain the changes. I believe that this is as simple as knowing a little bit about neuro science and how the brain will fall back into old habits unless we train ourselves to think another way. Brain patterning doesn't happen by itself, it needs our input. We need to be an active player in this game called life rather than sitting back and waiting for change to happen on it's own. It doesn't! but we can make it happen anytime we want too.
