AT SOME POINT WE NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT IT IS THAT MATTERS TO US.... NOT WHAT IS THE MATTER.
![]() In the wake of a week of tragedy both nationally and locally, frankly words feel clumsy and irrelevant. Those that know me and have experienced my mahi understand that our korero includes but goes beyond our conversations. The use of our words is rather curious to me as they can connect us or disconnect depending on use and interpretations. Communication to me is a way of conveying our thoughts, our perceived truths and realities, or our interpretations of our beliefs and values. Communication is not a one way street neither. So where do our beliefs and values come from? From the moment we are born we are picking up messages through our senses and forming feelings which then cluster to form emotions. All informing who we think we are. We absorb and learn what words are ‘taught’ to us, forming all part of our tapestry of our personal expression. As babies we are as about as perfect as we’ll ever be in this human world, we know no difference, it is only those who tell us we are different that creates separation. (The work and research of Dr Bruce Lipton is now revealing that we are 95% products of our environment as it is largely the environment that ‘activates’ the gene) As babies we know no religion, culture, nor have gender awareness. We don’t realise that we are separate from our mothers until quite some time after birth. We are just open beings who are present and being informed by our whanau and what the world around teaches us. For those of us who for whatever reason reach a point where we start to question our personal realities, the world around us, the people in it and how we fit in? Some of us feel we have little choice but to strive to take the path back to that feeling of connectedness. I say strive because whilst in this human body that’s all I can do. We seek a place where all souls are equal where there is no point of difference. The paradox exists though, that we DO experience difference as our personal reality tells us that we are the product of our socialization. I believe, it’s the striving towards connection that can bring us the common ground, and one we should hold sacred. HOW we do that should be up to us as individuals so long as the intent is to connect with love and not separate through fear, pay back, hatred, guilt nor shame, nor the need to control. Those who choose the latter will need to accept the consequences and take responsibility for their actions. Like we all do. Some will choose to wake up whilst others won’t. Those who have the belief that they need to control less be controlled? Are not yet awake to what I am saying. So what then when we come across folk like this in our day to day lives? Well we keep going and we seek to connect to our-selves is what, to make our own personal shift, not through our words but through what we feel and what we demonstrate. We have been seeing demonstrations this week of that love with people coming together as one movement. Now how do we keep this up? First of all we need to recognise when we aren’t in that space via the contrast of our senses, we then need to take personal responsibility for it understanding that it comes TO us and FROM us simultaneously. We don’t have to wait for the next tragedy, we can start in our own selves and in our own back yards and if we can’t strive to do that? ![]() If we humans don’t have a reason to do something different then we won’t. Motivation is really that simple. The tension that motivates us to move towards something else is always present, it’s simply part of our human tapestry as we are designed to create, evolve and grow. There are those who will resist that tension, and those who will observe it and respond to it in a opportunistic way. I see our personal growth and evolution like a ‘work out’. If we want our muscles to work more effectively and efficiently then we have to push past our perceived limits and feel inspired to do a little bit more than what we currently do. How we do it is up to us. Of course this does mean that there will be short term discomfort for a longer term gain. This is not only relevant for improving our physical health but for our mental and emotional health as well. The sooner we start accepting that our human condition is made up of our physical/mental and emotional health the quicker we can all move on to live the sorts of lives we want. Modern science is now measuring the body mind connection, and it’s not complicated. The work of global teachers such as Dr Joe Dispenza, Gregg Braden, and Dr Bruce Lipton tell us that we are largely products of our feelings and emotions and our response- ability to our environments. According to these experts genetics play a very small part in our wellbeing. There begs the question then why would we numb our emotions with drugs or alcohol unless of course our emotions are simply too unbearable. Yet, the catch 22 is to avoid the very motivators that we need to feel in order to create something new puts us immediately in a stale mate. Sure we all have self medicated with substances at some point in our lives to numb the painful feelings, but when we come to depend on those numbing agents because we can’t face our own reality then we will never feel the immense freedom and spirit that lies in waiting. Ancient cultures have known this for thousands of years. To numb our very reason for being human, i.e. our emotions, will surely reduce our chances of transformation. When did we start believing that our emotions are a hindrance rather than a compass? What say if they are simply signs and motivators to ‘move’. The response to our own observations about ourselves is key to the sort of life that we want. We can respond from a place of ‘whats already missing and wrong in our life’ or we can respond from a place of already ‘being’ what we think we are missing. Resolve to move forward and faith is key.
